Aims
The aims of
the International Assessments for Schools (English) are to:
- provide an
opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement
in an external assessment situation
- monitor
individual progress across a range of skills and knowledge in English
- recognise
and reward achievement at all levels
- provide
students, parents, teachers and schools with a comprehensive analysis of
student performance.
Features
This year the
English Assessment will feature:
- stimulus
materials designed to cater for a wide range of student abilities
- full
colour texts and attractive graphics throughout the paper
- materials
that cover a wide range of outcomes in the English curriculum
- literary
and factual texts that can be used as a valuable resource for teachers
- tasks
which will assess student abilities in understanding syntax and grammar.
Who benefits
from the English Assessment?
Students
The
diagnostic report enables students to:
- identify
personal strengths and weaknesses
- compare
their achievement with the rest of Hong Kong
- monitor
individual progress from year to year
- celebrate
success through receiving a Certificate.
The
diagnostic report is particularly valuable for providing an independent
result of assessment in specific Key Learning Areas for students at all
levels of achievement.
Additionally,
the student’s report and Certificate are highly suitable for inclusion in
a portfolio which could be used when applying for scholarships,
transferring to new schools and even for applying for first jobs.
Parents
In addition
to the above, parents can use the diagnostic report to discuss the
student’s performance with teachers and thereby contribute to the
development of an individual learning program for their child.
Schools
The
confidential statistics report enables schools to:
- identify
strengths and weaknesses in their students’ performances
- compare
their students’ achievements with the rest of Hong Kong
- examine
strengths and weaknesses in their school-based curriculum
- consider
the allocation of resources to support the curriculum.
Teachers
In addition
to the above, teachers can use the statistical reports to:
- monitor
individual student progress
- modify
their classroom activities to cater for the individual and/or group
needs of their students.
The School
Report will feature:
-
comprehensive diagnostic information
- a personal
Student Results Letter with a graphical student profile showing
individual strengths and weaknesses
- feedback
on specific skills in reading, language and spelling
- learning
outcomes for each task.
All participants will receive a
Certificate
suitable for inclusion in a portfolio and the student(s) with the top
score in each state will earn a Medal.
Results
What do I
get?
Each student
receives a diagnostic report on their performance and a Certificate
suitable for inclusion in a portfolio.
Schools
receive valuable statistics which will enable them to compare their
students' achievements with the rest of Hong Kong.
Each Year
Level is marked separately. This is why students must enter the Year Level
in which they are currently enrolled.
The
confidentiality of school statistics is maintained at all times.
IEEAC does not use these statistics to draw
comparisons between schools or school systems.
All students
receive Results Letters providing them with their results. An explanation
of how to interpret the Results Letter is provided on the reverse of the
letter.
Each school
will receive comprehensive feedback on the performance of their students,
as well as comparative data. No inter-school comparisons will be made.
Results will
be sent by courier to all Schools by the end of May.
Eligibility
for Awards
Candidates
must have participated in the Assessment on the official date to be
eligible for the award of a Medal.
Candidates
must have been supervised as for an external examination.
Neither the
supervisor, nor any invigilator assisting, should be a family member or
relative of any Candidate attempting the Assessment.
In special
circumstances, permission may be given to participate on an alternate
date. In this case, students will receive Certificates but they may not be
eligible to receive a Medal.
Medals are
awarded when a score is judged to be sufficiently meritorious.
To ensure the
integrity of the Assessment, IEEAC
reserves the right to investigate any factors which may have affected
student performance and eligibility for awards.
Awards
